Dear Friends and Colleagues,
On behalf of the Organizing Committee, it is my great pleasure and honor to invite you to attend the 10th International Conference of the International Society for Industrial Ecology, to be held at the Tsinghua University, Beijing, China, from July 7 to 11, 2019.
The conference theme is "Industrial Ecology for Eco-civilization". To make industrial civilization transform into eco-civilization, we need concept breaking, theoretical innovation, methodological support, and tools development. Triggered by the seminal article 30 years ago, luckily, industrial ecology has bred dozens of toolboxes, including social-economic metabolism, eco-industrial development, life cycle assessment, environmental input-output analysis, complex systems modeling, etc. We hope that you would continue to bring brilliant ideas, best work and profound enthusiasm to the conference, and make ISIE2019 another big success to promote the use of industrial ecology in research, education, policy, community development, and industrial practices.
China is experiencing a great transition from an agriculture-dominated country to the world plant with the largest scale and richness. More recently, Beijing, the capital of China, witnessed a significant improvement in air quality. All theses make China to be the best touchstone for examining the achievements of industrial ecology. Thus, you can enjoy the cultural relics with thousands of years under the blue sky and white cloud, including the Great Wall, the Forbidden City, the Summer Palace, etc.
We look forward to seeing you at Tsinghua University. You have a chance to network with the leading scholars of industrial ecology from around the world, to share and exchange cutting-edge ideas and work, to visit Chinese transitional metropolitan areas in the world.

The 6th Symposium of Industrial Ecology for Young Professionals (SIEYP VI) (July 6th, 2019)
The main goal of the symposium is to provide an opportunity for students & young professionals who perform research in industrial ecology (IE) to network with one another and discuss their research. The theme of SIEYP VI is “Turning research into action” and it aims to provide you with skills to translate your industrial ecology research into tangible outcomes through policy development and implementation. Furthermore, we are doing a field trip to a closed steel plant turned into a museum and cultural park, Shougang Park (http://shouganglvyou.com/).
Seminar: Urban Metabolism In Policy And Practice - A Global Discussion (July 6th, 2019)
This urban metabolism seminar will take place the day before the conference starts, on Saturday, July 6, 2019, and it is open both to attendees of the ISIE conference and to government officials, academics, and other interested parties. This event will focus on the challenges of solid waste and how an urban metabolism lens can help address these challenges in the city of Beijing. This event is co-organized by the Sustainable Urban Systems Section (SUS Section) of the ISIE, Metabolism of Cities, and the Institute of Urban Environment, Chinese Academy of Sciences.
Registration will be open until June 20, 2019 or until capacity is reached. Spaces are limited so sign up soon. Preference will be given to participants with a demonstrated relevance to the topic. This event is free of charge.
The annual Industrial Symbiosis Research Symposium (ISRS) (July 5th-6th, 2019)
Before the 2019 ISIE Conference – The annual Industrial Symbiosis Research Symposium (ISRS) will be held on Friday and Saturday (5th-6th) of July. This two-day event will begin with a day of symbiosis study tours and networking at the Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area. The second day of the symposium will focus on the theme “International Symbiosis” and will include, time to share developments around the world, inspiring international presentations, a round-table, as well as an afternoon of interactive workshops on the theme. As always, we look forward to bringing together researchers, practitioners and students to strengthen eco-industrial and symbiotic development. See more and register for the 2019 ISRS at www.isrs2019.com.
The Industrial Symbiosis Research Symposium (ISRS) is an annual event held by the ISIE section on eco-industrial development and industrial symbiosis (EID/IS). The symposium aims at bringing together researchers and practitioners to exchange on current research activities and EIP trends as well as to identify future research needs. The symposium is a unique opportunity to share recent information on field projects development in relation with research activities worldwide.

2019-EASETECH Course Program
LCA modelling of waste management systems-Learn to use the EASETECH model
“Training course on LCA modelling of waste management system” is a training course of ISIE 2019 conference. The course is offered by Tsinghua University (THU), Beijing Normal University (BNU) and Technical University of Denmark (DTU). This training course mainly introduces the scientific theory and systematic method of solid waste life cycle assessment (LCA) and applies the most advanced LCA model software EASETECH. During the course training and ISIE 2019 conference, researchers and managers can fully discuss concept and methodology of Solid waste LCA to promote the development of China and international solid waste system management.
The course provides an introduction to waste management as well as to LCA methodology. Focus is on providing the technical approach of modeling the various processes and technologies in waste management including the data structure and input to the model.
